What's so Special...

SPECIAL COMMITTEE WATCH

In 2014, the Governing Body adopted a special committee system. Under the new rules and procedures, the committees are not required to be noticed or open to the public. Because it is a formal extension of the GB making recommendations on policy issues, we believe it is important to monitor their activities. To date, the information regarding special committees on the City website is very vague.

Click here to visit the City Website's Special Committee Page.
Click here to find out if one of the committees has noticed a meeting.

Special Committees

* Only up to 7 people are allowed on each committee.

*
Citizen members and City Staff members are appointed by the City Manager. In total, at least 4 of the maximum 7 members are appointed by the City Manager.

*The Sponsor automatically assumes a position on the Committee. GB members who volunteer will have their names drawn by the City Clerk.  Only  up to 3 GB members can be on a committee.

* Each committee Chairperson has the discretion on whether to make their meetings open to the public and notice them.
The Governing Body may also vote on this at the time the Committee is formed.
